LegalCommunity Week 2025: “Nuclear Power in the Energy Transition”
“Nuclear Power in the Energy Transition” we discussed on June 11 during LegalCommunity Week 2025.
The event kicked off with a face-to-face discussion between Carla Mambretti and Ivan Aloi, who explored the complexities and potential of nuclear power in the Italian energy landscape.
Next, a panel of experts moderated by Giovan Battista Santangelo explored several crucial issues.
Among the speakers, Giovanna Faillace, Francesca Ferrazza, Stefano Brogelli, and Federico Piccaluga addressed key topics, including:
– The feasibility of nuclear power today in Italy and its potential role in meeting future needs for artificial intelligence, data centers, and electric vehicles, especially considering the limits of a transition based only on renewables.
– Major regulatory issues for nuclear power development in Italy, including the opening of the regulatory framework after the approval of the nuclear bill in February.
– A look at how the rest of the world views and experiences nuclear power, and the dynamics of project financing, between public and private capital.
– The need to draw on stable, sustainable and efficient sources of energy, as revealed by events such as the blackout in Spain, and the potential of nuclear power as an answer.
– The role of the right to innovation and research as concrete facilitation of the energy transition.
– The main issues to work on to raise awareness of the issue and foster a change of mindset (technological and industrial sphere, regulatory, appropriate workforce development, supply chain support).
– The role of legal, corporate and firm, and updating regulatory frameworks in a complex energy context.
We thank James Simpson for curating the concluding part of the event, all speakers and moderators for valuable contributions, and the LegalCommunity Week staff for excellent organization.
Special thanks to Letizia Ceriani and Aldo Scaringella.
